Where the earthly meets the ethereal.

Influenced by Salvador Dalí and Tamara de Lempicka. Eva’s paintings are a fusion of narrative-driven surrealism and layered textures.

Biography

Eva M.V. Hewitt (b. 2001) is a Scottish visual artist and painter based in Glasgow. Her practice centres on figurative painting and drawing, bringing together biblical and devotional iconography, art history, contemporary life and lived experience. The human figure has long been central to her work, through which she explores the body as a site of belief, authority and endurance. Increasingly, she is drawn to what surrounds us whether this be clothing, objects and familiar environments - and to the stories these things retain in the absence of the person.

Hewitt’s work explores the traces we leave behind, and the traces that are left upon us. Sentimental by nature, she is drawn to the emotional weight carried by seemingly insignificant things: the clothes we wear, objects we keep and spaces we inhabit. Through expressive realism, painting and collage, these familiar details become quiet records of identity, memory, aspiration and lived experience.

Hewitt graduated from Glasgow School of Art with First-Class Honours in Fine Art in 2023, followed by a Masters degree in Fine Art Practice (Painting). She has received awards including the Steven Campbell Trust Hunt Medal for Poetic Creativity (2023) and the Richard Ford Award (2024), and has undertaken artist residencies at the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid (2024) and Tighnabruaich Gallery (2025–26).

Her work moves between the earthly and the ethereal, finding significance in the ordinary and the human stories held within it.
